Did you know that the White House is a piece of Neo-Classical architecture? If the towering columns and large domes look familiar, thats because neo-classical architecture emerged in the 18th century as a revival of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Symmetry, proportionalism, and order are all important facets of neo-classical architecture. The style became especially popular for government buildings, museums, and monuments because of its association with democracy and classical civilization during the enlightenment period.
