Stratus clouds are low-altitude light to dark gray water droplet clouds without significant variation in appearance. Stratus clouds are uniform and flat, producing a gray layer of cloud cover. These clouds usually emerge in stable atmospheric conditions, after the passage of a warm front. Stratus clouds can be found all year round. They may be precipitation-free or may cause periods of light rain or drizzle.
