Altostratus clouds are flat and have a uniform type texture, like a sheet. They usually bring a gray or bluish-gray appearance to the sky, giving us those cool, overcast days. These clouds are often seen in winter and form by large air masses rising, ahead of a warm front. This rising causes the air to cool and water vapor to condense. These clouds indicate an approaching warm front and occasional sprinkles or light showers may occur.
