Drones and UAVs

Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, often called UAVs, are aircraft that can fly without a pilot onboard. Some are controlled remotely by operators on the ground, while others can fly using programmed routes and automation. Over the past decade, drones have become one of the fastest-growing parts of aviation because of how useful and accessible they are.

Small consumer drones are commonly used for photography, filmmaking, inspections, and recreational flying. Businesses and organizations also use drones for mapping, agriculture, search and rescue, and infrastructure inspections. In the military, larger UAVs are used for surveillance and reconnaissance missions that may be too dangerous for manned aircraft.

One reason drones have become so popular is their ability to capture images that would otherwise require helicopters or airplanes. Modern drones can carry high-quality cameras, fly with GPS assistance, and even avoid obstacles automatically. As technology continues to improve, drones are becoming a bigger part of everyday life and the future of aviation.
