Mario Kart

Mario Kart is not contained within the Super Mario game series but includes many of the characters, power ups, and other features from the Super Mario Universe. It is its own series of games; however, like the Super Mario series, is contained under the umbrella of Nintendo's Mario franchise. Released in 1992 for the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Mario Kart consists of fifteen different games where characters from the Mario franchise compete in kart races and tournaments. Players advance through cups: groups of races each with a uniquely-themed track. Tracks include previously-seen locations from the Mario franchise and new “nitro” courses original to Mario Kart, such as Rainbow Road and Shroom Ridge.
