Games in the Series

Over the years, Nintendo has released multiple games in the Super Mario series. Here's a brief summary detailing five of Mario's most popular adventures.

Super Mario Bros (1985): The original Super Mario was created for a Japanese video game console known as the Family Computer (AKA Famicom) and its American equivalent, the Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES). Unlike its predecessor Mario Bros, a single-screen arcade game, Super Mario Bros. (1985) featured a series of levels with moving platforms. The storyline can be found in the Early Development page of this website.

Super Mario World (1991): In the 1991 installment of the Super Mario series, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach celebrate the defeat of Bowser with a vacation to Dinosaur Land. The fun is cut short when Princess Peach is kidnapped yet again, and the Super Mario Bros must go on another rescue mission, this time with the help of a dinosaur named Yoshi.

New Super Mario Bros (2006): Princess Peach is kidnapped. No surprise there. Mario travels through several different worlds, overcoming obstacles and defeating enemies along the way. He must find the kidnapper and rescue the princess before it's too late. New Super Mario Bros. can be played on the Nintendo DS.

Super Mario 3D Land (2011): A mysterious tree in the Mushroom Kingdom is ravaged by a fierce storm, and Princess Peach goes to check on it but never returns. When Mario and the Toads look for her, all they find is a photograph of Bowser with Princess Peach–kidnapped! Again. Mario travels through a dangerous 3D world in order to save her.

Super Mario Odyssey (2017): Mario has a new ally in Super Mario Odyssey: a hat named Cappy. Mario and Cappy travel the world, collecting Power Moons for access to the Odyssey airship so they can stop Bowser from marrying Princess Peach against her will. She's probably kidnapped, yet again.
