The Girls
In the first Despicable Me movie, Gru adopts three young girls from Miss Hattie's Home for Girls. Their names are Margo, Edith, and Agnes. At the time of adoption, Margo was around 11 years old, Edith was about 8, and Agnes was around 5. Gru's ultimate reason for adopting them was to have some assistance in his plot to steal the moon. He uses them to steal the shrink ray back from his rival, Vector. However, after spending time with them he comes to like them and chooses to commit and adopt them instead of returning them to the orphanage.
