Ao dai can serve as formalwear for both men and women. Áo translates as shirt and dài means long. Ao dai has a different style of it and keeps changing year by year. It has eye-catching patterns, Red áo dài are worn during Tết (new years) for luck and prosperity. Brides and grooms may also wear red on their wedding day. White symbolizes purity and innocence, as seen in the white dresses of high school students.
