The Helios Tree
The Helios Tree is named for Helios, god of the sun. It was discovered by naturalists Chris K. Atkins and Michael W. Taylor. The Helios Tree was the world's tallest tree for just over a month until the very same scientists discovered the Hyperion on August 25, 2006. The Helios tree is in an area of the Redwood National Park called the Helios Grove. Like the Hyperion, the Helios Tree's exact location is kept secret for its protection.
