Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh is a city in Pennsylvania. While it is not the capital, it is the second most populated city in Pennsylvania, with a population of 308,885 as of 2025. In terms of area, Pittsburgh is the third largest city in Pennsylvania, with an area of 55.37 square miles.
Pittsburgh was founded in 1758 by John Forbes who named it after William Pitt. Since then, Pittsburgh has played a major role in the history of the United States.
Pittsburgh was a large player in the US’s early steel industry. Developments such as canals, steamboats, and railroads all contributed to the development of the steel industry in Pittsburgh.
