The Donner Party was a group of American pioneers who became trapped in heavy snow during the winter while at the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1846-1847. The Donner Party was led by two people. George Donner and James Reed. About 87 people was delayed by a unproven "shortcut". They where stranded near present day Donner Lake with very little supplies. About half of the party died from starvation and extreme cold weather.
